Peace Corps Third Goal

All Peace Corps Volunteers are aware of the Three Goals of Peace Corps.

In 1961, President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps to promote world peace and friendship, with the following mission:

  • Helping the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women, by offering technical assistance to citizens of those countries where Peace Corps has been invited to serve.
  • Helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served, by helping citizens of other countries improve their knowledge and awareness of America and Americans.
  • Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans, by helping Americans learn more about the people and the culture of the countries in which Peace Corps is represented.

Later this month, I am very pleased and proud to be participating in the Third Goal in Seattle, thanks to Kiwanis Club of Industrial Seattle and Division 26 of Kiwanis International.  And it will be a privilege to tell about the many wonderful experiences I have had so far as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Azerbaijan, at the crossroads of East and West.
